Garden Helpers 

•  We thank B. Buiten for tending the garden last week. 

•  R. Boes will tend the garden this week.  I noticed there are a lot of peas that need to be picked and taken to Food Gatherers.  We planted pea pods, so we want them thin.  These are not the peas for chucking.

We still have 2 weeks needing a volunteer to tend our garden.  They are:

August 24 – Learned, Thank You!

August 31 – Melissa Lubbers, Thank You!

Other News

1. The garden gate door has something chewing away at the wood, where the top and bottom sections meet.  It is noticeable when you open the door and look at the end.  I watched for a bit, but did not see any ants or bees coming and going.  Please keep an eye on this and notify me if you discover who are the intruders.  Thanks!
2. Our Faith and Food Garden Sign is in need of attention.  It has done well for 5 years, but now needs to be scraped, sanded down and some new polyurethane applied.  Is anyone able to do this from this group?  If not, could anyone recommend someone and even go a step farther and ask them if they would be willing to give our sign the attention it needs.  Please let me know.
3. Today I replaced a large section of hose, that had been eaten up by the lawn mower crew's machines, with a new 50' hose.  We are looking into purchasing some PVC piping to encase our hoses to help protect them.

Watering

•  Please turn the water on and off at the church spigot.

#2 F & F tending needs‏

Just so you know, as you check your calendars: Three gardeners have spoken for 3 of the remaining weeks needing tending.

Thank you Muriel Learned, Kun Wha Kim and Melissa Lubbers for your quick response.


I'd love to get past the scheduling phase, so if you've been waiting to see if someone else is going to step up to the plate, don't let the fun be grabbed up away from you.  Remember, this is a great activity to do with your children who will love to pick the veggies and water, will learn about gardening and giving to those in need and enjoy hearing the chimes.  

Let me know.  Help us fill in the last 3 weeks needing a volunteer to tend the garden you love and support.

It's no secret that these weeks require a bit more time than earlier in the season.  Harvesting comes at the end of the season, and that's what the garden is all about.  And, that's why we are partnering with Food Gatherers, to provide this food.  So,  if you look over your calendar and can manage another week to gather in the goods and deliver to Food Gatherers, please let me know.  It always gives me a great feeling to take the food to "Carrot Lane", weigh in and leave knowing someone is going to really appreciate our efforts in growing this food.
